CHARLTON: Jeanette L. (Hutchinson) Russell, 75, died unexpectedly Monday, November 28, 2016 in St. Vincent Hospital.

She leaves her husband James W. Russell, Sr., two sons James W. Russell, Jr. and his wife Kelly of New Underwood, South Dakota and Todd H. Russell and his wife Sloane of Sturbridge, five grandchildren; Andrew Russell, Kristopher Russell, Ryan Russell, Paige Wood and Mak Wood-Ortiz and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Haven Hutchinson.

Jeanette was born in Lubec, Maine daughter of Haven and Ruth (Zwicker) Hutchinson. She graduated from Lubec High School. She was the director of personnel at the Public House for many years before retiring. She enjoyed knitting, reading and spending time at the Charlton Senior Center. She grew beautiful orchids and african violets.

Funeral Services and burial in Northside Cemetery Charlton will be private. BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn is assisting the family with arrangements.

Fiskdale, MA James “Robert” Reed, 89, formerly of Owensville, passed away June 29, 2016 at the Overlook Masonic Home in Charlton, MA. He was born in Gibson County on August 27, 1926 to the late Charles Henry and Anna (Bell) Reed. Robert attended Owensville School for 1 year finishing his high school at Howard School in Nashville and graduated in the class of 1943. He retired after 40 years as a Tool and Die Maker at Whirlpool Corporation. Robert was a member and Deacon for many years of the Maumee General Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years Joan (Robinson) Reed; daughter and son-in-law, Garnet (Reed) and James L. Olson; granddaughter, Lily Olson. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, James Paul Reed in 1976; brother, Don Charles Reed in 1970. Services will be held on Friday July 15, 2016 at noon at the Maumee General Baptist Church in Johnson with the Rev. Ken Nelson officiating and assisted by Kevin Miley. Burial will be in the Maumee Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at the church. Holders Funeral Home in Owensville is handling the arrangements. WORCESTER-Marion L. (Backman) Schonbeck, 97, of Worcester died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Life Care Center of Auburn. Her husband, Idoff Schonbeck predeceased her in 1982.

She leaves her daughter, Nancy E. Carlson and her husband David of Sutton, two grandchildren, Karen and Stephen Carlson,two great grandchildren, Cameron Hicks of Worcester and Zachary Carlson of Warren, a sister, Gurlie Anderson of Worcester, and several nephews and nieces. Three brothers; Carl Raymond, Herbert and Alvin Anderson and a brother-in-law, Frank Anderson predeceased her.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of Axel G. Anderson and Anny E. Backman and graduated from Charlton High school. Marion was a lifelong member of Emanuel Lutheran Church.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 3rd at Charlton City United Methodist Church, 74 Stafford Street, Charlton. A visiting hour will also be held at church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be private.

Auburndale, FL / Charlton - Carol E. (Butler) Mann Cook, 79, formerly of Charlton, passed away on Wednesday, April 20th, in Lakeland, FL, after an illness.

Her first husband of 41 years, Ralph L. Mann, died in 1997.

She leaves her husband of 13 years, Walter N. Cook III; her son, Brett L. Mann and his wife Dorothy of Dudley; her daughter, Cheryl L Mann of Charlton; two stepdaughters, Dena Gregory and her husband Todd and Georgeann Husky and her husband Chris, all of Florida; her brother, Ronald H. Butler and his wife Ginny of Auburndale, FL; her sister, Joyce A. Langevin of Charlton; nine grandchildren, Michelle Ferguson Davis and her husband Benjamin, Laura Ferguson Anderson and her husband Keith, Jessica Resener and her husband Ben, Angelique Carter, Monique Rousseau, Alec Husky, Athan Husky, Kyle Gregory, and Katherin Gregory; 13 great grandchildren, Brayden, Elijah, Ella, Tyler, Zachary, Cole, Tristen, Jose, Keren, Rickie, Jayden, Trevor and Jase; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Butler. Carol was born in Charlton the daughter of Stephen and Olive C. (Prouty) Butler.

Carol worked for many years as an administrative assistant at the Masonic Home in Charlton, retiring many years ago. Prior to that she was a secretary for CPC Engineering, United Lens, several years at Shepherd Hill Regional High School as secretary to the Superintendant. Carol also raised her family well, did all the bookkeeping for Mann Bros. Garage, coached Lassie League, and served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts, and entertained many friends and family over the years. In retirement she enjoyed family, friends, traveling , crossword word puzzles and her beautiful retirement home with Walter in Auburndale, Florida, as well as their summer camp in Thompson, CT, where she enjoyed mini-trips throughout New England visiting family and friends up North.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, April 29th, 10:00am in the Charlton City United Methodist Church, 74 Stafford St., Charlton. Burial in West Ridge Cemetery, Charlton, will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours in the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, will be held on Thursday, April 28th, from 6:00 to 8:00pm.

Edward Kondracki, 74

Southbridge - Edward L. Kondracki, 74, of Southbridge, died on Tuesday, March 8th in Harrington Memorial Hospital.

Edward is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Eleanor M. (Gosselin) Kondracki; a son, Scott Kondracki and his wife Donna of Charlton; 2 daughters, Gayle Howland and her husband Robert of Sturbridge and Tina Leone of Dudley; a son in law, Richard Lassman of Clinton; 5 grandchildren, Riley and Bryce Howland and Payton and Paige Leone and Keith Lassman as well as many nephews and nieces.

Ed was born in Worcester, and raised by his grandmother, Stefania "Stella" Duma and is also predeceased by a daughter, Pamela Lassman who died in October 2014 and a brother, Walter Kondracki.

Ed served in the United States Army. He worked for many years at Consolidated Beverages as a truck driver and he previously worked at the former Brown Shoe Company. Ed was a family oriented man who loved to draw, paint, do puzzles and go camping in Bourne with his wife. He also loved his canine companion "Mandy". He will be missed by many.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 16th at 11AM in the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester with burial to follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Charlton: Frank C. Gard, 85, passed away on Friday, Nov. 20th, in the UMass Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester, after a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 64 years, Louise D. (Lefebvre) Gard; his three children, Ann M. Tremblay and her husband David, Susan M. Tittle and her husband David and Robert F. Gard and his wife Kristen, all of Charlton; two sisters, Verna Miller of Thompson, CT and Carol Dergan and her husband Robert of Oceanside, CA; a brother-in-law Victor Lefebvre and his Monique of Southbridge; nine grandchildren, Jason Tremblay, Michele Tremblay, Nicole Collins, Janet Simpkins, April Foskett, Austin Tittle, Michael Gard, Matthew Gard and Julia Gard; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two granddaughters, Leanna Tremblay and Aubrey Tittle, and by a brother, Robert Gard. He was born in Charlton the son of Robert A. and Marjorie (Gilbert) Gard. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War era. Frank was a long time vocational teacher at Bay Path Regional Vocational High School, retiring in 1993. He previously operated his own auto repair shop, Frank's Garage, in Charlton and also previously worked for Keyes Pontiac in Southbridge. He was a member of the American Legion. Frank loved camping, boating and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing golf, going to yard sales and flying an airplane. He and his wife would camp during the summers in Jamestown, RI and they spent the winters in Naples, Florida. His funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 25th, at 11:00am in St. Joseph's Church, 10 H. Putnam Rd. Ext., Charlton. Burial will follow in New Notre Dame Cemetery, Southbridge. A calling hour will be held in St. Joseph's Church on Wednesday, Nov. 25th, from 10:00 to 11:00am, before the Mass. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Joseph's Parish, 10 H. Putnam Rd. Joseph A. Wilson, 94

Oxford - Joseph A. Wilson, 94, died Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy "Dot" R. (Riel) Wilson, who died in 1998. He is survived by four children, Shellie J. Wilson Kachadoorian and her husband Robert of Auburn, Jennifer L. Choquette of Putnam, CT, Scott J. Wilson and his wife Joy of Vernon, CT, and Dr. Mark M. Wilson of Northboro; two brothers, Fred Wilson of Westboro and David Wilson of Worcester; 10 grandchildren, Eric, Jodi, Sabrina, A.J., Kyle, Courtney, Casey, Samantha, Robyn, and Russell; six great grandchildren, Samantha, Amanda, Heather, Emma, Jasper, and Landen; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a daughter, Heather Wilson who died in 1954; and a granddaughter, Karissa J. Choquette who died in 2008. He was born in Sandown, NH, son of the late John and Beulah R. (Phillips) Wilson, and lived most of his life in Oxford. He graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester, and was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II.

Joe was a photographer for Wyman-Gordon in North Grafton for many years. In addition, he was an aerial photographer at a submarine base and worked at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in New London, CT. He was a member of Singletary Rod and Gun Club in Oxford. Joe enjoyed oil painting, writing poetry, HO scale model railroad trains, cheating at cribbage, and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice .

 

Ethel E. McKinnon Ekstrom

CHARLTON – Ethel E. (Dickinson) McKinnon Ekstrom, 86, passed away Saturday, October 3, peacefully at home with her family by her side. Ethel was born in Auburn and lived there most of her life.

She leaves behind, her three children, her son, Alan David McKinnon and his wife, Sara McKinnon, her son, Donald Mark Mckinnon and his wife, Gerry McKinnon and her daughter, Robin Ruth LaPorta and her husband, Brian LaPorta. She also leaves her four step children, Keith Ekstrom and his wife, Mary Ekstrom, Pam Morrison and her husband, Mike Morrison, Neal Ekstrom and Jane Ekstrom. Ethel leaves fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul L. F. Ekstrom, her father Bert K. Dickinson, her mother, Bertha E. Cotter, her brother Roger B. Dickinson.

Ethel graduated from Girls Trade, Worcester in 1946. She went on to work for several companies as a seamstress, which happened to be her trade in school. She adopted her three children and raised them with love, good values and work ethics. She retired with her husband in 1994. While staying in Florida three months out of the year she took up oil painting, and with the classes she took, became a very talented artist. She truly enjoyed painting. She and her husband Paul, traveled to many places and saw many wonderful sights. They spent much time with their family and friends creating great memories.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7th in the Charlton City United Methodist Church, 74 Stafford St. in Charlton. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6th in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury. Burial will be private in Central Cemetery in Millbury. Norman R. Guivens, 88

Braintree – Norman R. Guivens, 88 years of age, entered Eternal Life at Overlook Masonic Home in Charlton, MA on Sunday, September 13, 2015. He was born in Wollaston and graduated from North Quincy High School.  He graduated from Burdett College, Boston in 1950 and graduated from Suffolk University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1955. He received a Master’s Degree in Taxation from Bentley College in 1978. During W.W. II he served in the U.S. Navy and was recalled during the Korean period. After several years as an accountant for various auto dealers, he joined the Internal Revenue Service as an Internal Auditor and later as a Revenue Agent. During this period, he became the founder and first president of the IRA-CPA Association, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants. After his retirement from the IRS, he worked part time for various accounting firms and as an accountant for various charities. Norman was a member of the Quincy Community United Methodist Church in Wollaston, a life member of the Satuit Lodge of Masons in Scituate, and a member of the Euclid Lodge of Masons, then in Stoughton and now in Braintree. He belonged to the American Association of Retired Persons. He was the beloved husband of the late Lula Elizabeth (Wager) Guivens who died in 2004. He was the devoted father of Norman R. Guivens, Jr. of Braintree. Visiting hours will be at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Monday, September 21st from 4-8 and later again on Tuesday, September 22nd from 9:30am-10:30am prior to the procession to the Quincy Community United Methodist Church. Holland: Maxine E. (Broad) Libby, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, surrounded by her husband, Stanley P. Libby Jr. of 63 years and family.

She leaves behind 6 daughters: Linda Libby of Marlborough, Valerie Reil of Maine, Brenda Hutchinson of Charlton, Stella Bonin and her husband John of Brookfield, Sheila Goodspeed of Fiskdale and Julie Libby of Fiskdale. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Michael Jacobson of PA, Rebecca Libby of Maine, Jeanne Braley of N.H., Keri Cody of Conn., Adam Goodspeed of Holland, Justin Goodspeed of Sturbridge, Joseph Niquette of Conn., Steven Niquette of Southbridge and Cody Birch of Southbridge;18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Maxine was born in Fort Fairfield,Maine, the daughter of Winfield K. Broad Sr. and Esther (Amsden) Broad. She was predeceased by her sisters: Murial Skillian, Hazel Broad and Dorothy LeMay.She also leaves behind her brother Winfield K. Broad, Jr.

Maxine was a homemaker. She was a devoted and loving mother who enjoyed baking for all the neighborhood children, family get-togethers, music and bird watching.

Paul Daniel Garrett of Sturbridge, MA,
March 15, 1961 – July 12, 2015

​STURBRIDGE: Paul D. Garrett, 54, of Sturbridge, passed away suddenly on July 12, 2015 at UMass Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

 

He leaves his wife Sharon Johnson; a daughter: Alison Garrett; a son: Benjamin Garrett, both at home; a brother: Scott Garrett and his wife Susan of Lake Forest, Illinois; a nephew: Brett Garrett, his wife Maryam and children Abigail and Logan of Cambridge, Massachusetts; a niece, Elizabeth (Garrett) Mettler and her husband Matthew of Los Angeles, California.   

 

He was predeceased by his brother Jack Garrett, his sister Sally Garrett and his niece Maria Garrett.

 

Born in Deerfield, Illinois, Paul was the son of the late Roscoe and Jeanne (Lucas) Garrett.  He graduated from the University of Michigan with a BS in Materials Science and then earned MS and PhD degrees from Cornell University.   Paul worked for Bemis Associates in Shirley as a materials scientist, where he greatly enjoyed the teamwork with his coworkers and the challenge of solving technical problems.  

 

Paul was a wonderful man – kind, strong, loving, selfless, tolerant, forgiving, competitive, smart, humble, and fun-loving.  He loved participating in his children’s activities; he was so proud of them.  He was totally dedicated to his family, always giving them his unconditional love.  He kept us laughing with his sharp wit and was the best person to have on your team playing games.  He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed traveling, and loved music and playing softball.  His greatest enjoyment, however, was the time he spent with family and friends.  Paul will be deeply missed.

 

Calling hours will be from 5-8 P.M. on Friday, July 17 in the Belanger Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA.

 

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 18 at 9:30AM in the Charlton City United Methodist Church, 74 Stafford Street, Charlton, MA.

Fiskdale - Edmond S. Kosakowski, 94, formerly of Main St., passed away on Tuesday, March 24th, in the Sandalwood Center, Oxford, after an illness.

His first wife, Genevieve (Lenda) Kosakowski, died in 1981 and his second wife, Frances (Bean) Ginn Kosakowski died in 2008. A son, Andre Kosakowski died in 2006. He leaves his son, Dennis J. Kosakowski and his wife Jeanne of Dudley; four grandchildren, Sara Kosakowski and her companion Rowan Lowbridge of Millbury, Adam Kosakowski and his wife Alexandra of Manchester, CT, Kimberly L'Heureux and her husband Rodney of Webster and Tim Kupstas and his fiancée Pam Wagner of Dudley; a niece Ann McNamee and her husband Roger of Woodside, CA; a nephew, Tom Kosakowski and his wife Cheryl of Sioux Falls, SD; and several great grandchildren and great nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Henry Kosakowski, Thaddeus Kosakowski and John Kosakowski, Jr. He was born in Southbridge the son of John P. and Antonina (Krzywiczki) Kosakowski. He attended Southbridge schools and was a graduate of Cole Trade High School, Southbridge, in 1942.

Edmond was a sales manager for Bermer Tool & Die in Southbridge for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Hedwig's Church in Southbridge and its St. Stanislaw Society. He was a member of the Society of Plastic Engineers. He was a founding member of the Hayloft Steppers Square Dance Club of Sturbridge. Ed was an avid golfer and was a long time member of Cohasse Country Club in Southbridge. He also served on the Dr. Van's Golf Tournament Committee.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, March 28th, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 10:00am in St. Hedwig's Church of the St. John Paul II Parish, Everett St., Southbridge. Burial will be in St. Hedwig' Cemetery, Southbridge. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Friday, March 27th, from 6:00 to 8:00pm.

AUBURN/CHARLTON - Charlene E. (Weston) Brown-Cooney, 83, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.

She leaves 3 daughters; Pamela Brown and her partner Anne Vigeant of Millbury, Elizabeth Vizard of Ocklawha, FLA., and Betty- Jane Gray and her husband William of Webster, 2 sisters; Geraldine Weston of Bangor, ME., and Rosalie Seavey of Milo, ME., a brother; Raymond Weston of Orlando, FLA., several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Charlene was born in Kingman, Maine a daughter of the late Raymond and Evelyn (West) Weston and lived many years in Charlton, several years in Douglas and the last 4 years at Eddy Pond in Auburn.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Maxwell Brown and her second husband, Richard J. 'Dick' Cooney, a son, Lee Emerson Brown, a daughter, Elaine Brown, 3 step-brothers; Leonard, Leo, and Wesley Stearns and a brother, Richard Weston.

She retired after 27 years from Cabot Safety Corp. and also worked for many years for American Optical Co.

There are no calling hours.

A Private Burial Service, after cremation will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Uxbridge at the discretion of the family.

Gretchen was born in Southbridge, the daughter of the late William H. and Phyllis L. (Ham) Blauvelt, Sr. and has lived in Charlton most of her life.

Harold J. ‘Biz’ Konkol, 65, of Front St., formerly of Sutton, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 in his home. He leaves behind his children; Julie Lulu of Dudley, Joy Kochinskas of Charlton, John Lanoue of FLA., and Karen Sisko of Auburn and Judy.

Konkol of Wilsonville, Ct., and Julius J. ‘Bud’ Konkol , Jr. of Charlton. 8 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and extended family of his long time companion Joyce Demers who died in 2011. He is also predeceased by a grand-daughter, Brittany.

Harold was born in Worcester a son of the late Julius J. ‘Bud’ and Aurore A. (Thibeault) Konkol. Sr. and lived in Sutton for many years before moving to Oxford several years ago.

He was a hard worker , a man of few words, and loved his scratch tickets and going to the casino. He was always available for his kids and grandchildren, whether they needed him to babysit or if they needed a ride to work or a friends house or to be picked up from school. He worked at the former Webster Spring Co. in Oxford and for RK Construction.

Clyde R. Willey, 88, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014 at his daughter Wendy’s home.

Clyde leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Jeanne G. (LaPan) Willey, 3 children; Brenda J. Hansen and her husband Bruce of Oxford, Wendy M. Gomes and her husband Alan of North Grosvenordale, CT., and Christopher R. Willey of Shrewsbury, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Clyde was born in Oxford son of Lawrence P. and Mildred (Farnum) Willey and lived her most of his life. He was a WWII, U.S. Navy veteran and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater mostly in the Philipines.

He worked as a mail carrier in Oxford for 27 years and retired from there in 1980, he then worked for 18 years for the Town of Oxford, cemetery department.

He was a member of the Oxford V.F. W. Post 5663, and Oxford American Legion Post 58.He enjoyed playing pool, horseshoes, hunting, hiking, bean bag games and his metal detector, he also loved his dogs.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors by the Oxford Memorial Honor Guard will be Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 11 AM at North Cemetery in Oxford.

LEICESTER - Oliver "Black Feather" Suprenant - He was born was born in Sturbridge,MA. the son of late George J. Sr. & Ruth O.(Davis) Suprenant on Oct. 3, 1938 and after 75 full years passed away June 2, 2014. Black Feather is survived by his wife of 34 years Jayne "Generous Heart" (Heelan) Suprenant; his children Joshua, Aaron, Karyn and Jacalyn; his siblings Donald, Gerald, Lucy Ann, and Mary Ellen; his grandchildren Aiden, Krystle, Jayme, Kyle and Jason; extended family and friends. Oliver is predeceased by his brother George Jr. and sisters Sylvia and Doris; his daughters Sheryl and Tracy. Oliver proudly served his country in U.S. Navy on the USS Agerholm (DD-826). Oliver was a man of many paths, finding joy in each journey that he took. He was a racecar driver, mechanic, outdoorsman, pilot, musician, teacher, beloved husband and father.Oliver was a employee of of Penske Truck Leasing until he retired. He was Chairperson of the Committee of the Native American Ministries where he traveled extensively, sharing his knowledge. He was a member and Lay speaker of the Charlton City United Methodist Church.Oliver was a kidney recipient and in gratitude dedicated his life supporting the University of Massachusetts Medical Center Organ Donation Program. He did this by hosting Native American Powwows, and organizing a Gift of Life walk, and with assistance of dedicated medical processionals also supported a Health Awareness fair where many people found unknown medical issues leading to early treatment and prevention.The Family would also like to give an extra special thank you to Katie Partridge who on Nov 16, 1998 gave Oliver and his family the gift of life by donating her kidney to him. SPENCER: Katherine “Katy (Walker) McFee 45, of Jolicoeur Ave., died suddenly, Friday, May 2 at her home.

She leaves her husband of 10 years, Harry E. McFee III, her children; Samantha G. and Benjamin E. McFee, Harry E. McFee IV, Kayla M. McFee and her fiancé Koby Earnest and Kelley M. McFee all of Spencer, her granddaughter Kylie Earnest of Spencer, her parents; E. Allan and Priscilla S. (Standish) Walker of Charlton, a brother Scott A. Walker and his wife Deborah of Oxford, and a sister Deborah W. Murphy and her husband Douglas of Madison, Alabama, several nieces and nephews, including Felicia, Zachary and Chad Walker and Paige and Patrick Murphy who were very dear to her.

Katy was a registered nurse and most recently was the school nurse at Knox Trail Junior High School in Spencer and previously at Maple Street School. She also had worked in the Intensive Care Unit at UMASS Medical Center in Worcester.

Born in Exeter, NH, she later graduated from Shepherd Hill Regional High School in Dudley, Class of 1987 and went on to earn her Degree in Nursing from Northeastern University in Boston, Class of 1992. She was very active with Spencer Youth Soccer and its fundraising. She was a voracious reader and a Boston sports fan.

A memorial service for Katy will be held on Thursday, May 8th at 11 a.m. in the Charlton City United Methodist Church, 74 Stafford St., Charlton. There are no calling hours. CHARLTON:  Douglas P. Hutchinson, 64, of Robert Blvd, passed away peacefully, Thursday evening, April 17, at Harrington Hospital with his loving family members at his side.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 26 years Brenda (Libby) Hutchinson; a step daughter Keri Cody and her fiancée  Tyler Douclos of Dayville, CT; 2 sisters Deborah Mogavero and her husband Dave of Westerly, RI; Donna Reynolds of Southbridge, MA; his aunt Faith and uncle Will Houle of Clarksburg, West Virginia; a step grandson Corey Leoni, and several nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces, his mother-in-law Maxine Libby and father-in-law Stanley Libby,his sister-in-laws Linda Libby, Valerie Riel, Stella Bonin and her husband John Bonin, Shelia Goodspeed and Julie Libby.

Doug was born in Southbridge, the son of Donald and June (Byron) Hutchinson and lived in the area all his life. He graduated from Cole Trade High School in Southbridge. During the 1970’s he was a Volunteer Fire Fighter in Southbridge.

He worked for New England Auto body for 26 years and retired as a truck driver for Bermer Tool Co. in Southbridge.

Doug was a member of the Central Mass Wanders Club over 25 years. He had a passion for restoring vintage cars. His latest project was building a rat rod with his friend Tex.  

Doug had a love for all creatures and enjoyed feeding them and spending time with them.

 Doug will be greatly missed from all who knew him.

His funeral will be held at 10:00AM, Wednesday, April 23, in the Charlton City United Methodist Church, Stafford St, Charlton, MA. Burial will follow at Northside Cemetery.

Charlton:  Judith “Judy” A. (Cummings) Crowley, 77, of New Spencer Rd. died Tuesday, April 15 in the Overlook Masonic Nursing Home.  She leaves a son, Daniel Crowley and his wife Annette, of Charlton; two daughters, Debra Mann and her husband David, of AZ., and Darlene Tully and her husband Dennis, of Charlton; a brother Richard Cummings of Charlton; a sister Mary-Jane Gillespie of Charlton; a sister-in-law Frankie Cummings of Charlton; six grandchildren, Eric Tully and his wife Jamie, Megan Tully, Emily Tully, Sarah Crowley, Lindsay Mann, and Chelsea Mann; three great-grandchildren, Craig Tully, Gavin Tully, and Cameron Ingels; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She also leaves her long-time devoted friend Kathy Simons.  She was predeceased by two brothers, Donald Cummings and Dan Cummings, and two sisters, Lois Foskett and Audrey Hill.\

Judy was born in Charlton, daughter of the late James G. and Bessie W. (Wolfenden) Cummings and graduated from Charlton High School.  She worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 36 years, starting in 1967.  In 1971, she was promoted to Postmaster, and worked as the Charlton Depot Postmaster for 30 years until her retirement in 2002. 

She was a member of the Charlton High School Alumni Association, serving as its secretary for many years.  She was a longtime member of the Charlton City United Methodist Church, the Charlton Helping Hands Society, and the Red Hat Society.  She enjoyed sewing, and especially making cherished quilts for her family members. She was an avid shopper, and loved baking breads and making jellies.  Above all else, Judy enjoyed spending time with her beloved family, who were the center of her world.  She touched the lives of many people with her smile, and giving and generous heart.  She will be missed by many.

LEICESTER - Donna Lee Hayes 63, passed away April 9, 2014 while wintering at Ft. Myers Fl. after a short illness. Donna leaves he husband of 33 years James W Hayes of Leicester, her 2 sons Shane of Rochdale and and Travis of Grafton, 2 grandsons Connor 11 years and Hunter just 4 weeks old. She leaves four brothers, Larry and his wife Laurie of Charleton, Ma, Russel of Worcester, Ma, John and his wife Laurie of Shrewsbury, Ma, and Richard and his wife Shelia of Worcester, Ma. Also several Nieces and nephews.

 

Donna was born in Worcester, Ma the daughter of Glenn and June Harms. Moved to Leicester in 1986 with her husband and 2 sons. Donna graduated from St Peter Marion High School in 1969. She worked at Iandolis corporate offices until joining the United States Post Office in Worcester as a letter carrier in 1986. Donna loved life and her family. Her family always came first.

 

She loved to camp on Cape Cod and other areas around the Northeast. She liked to spend time at the casinos with friends and playing cards with her family at birthday parties.

 

A memorial service will be held at the "Charlton City United Methodist Church" in Charlton City, Ma on Stafford St. on April 25 at 2 PM. Internment will be private at the National Cemetery in Bourne, Ma. -

 

 

 

Earl R. Latour

 

October 3, 1938 - February 23, 2014

Sturbridge: Earl R. Latour, 75, of Breakneck Rd., passed away Sunday, Feb. 23rd, in Webster Manor, Webster, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 46 years, Cynthia M. (Heck) Latour; a son, Thomas Latour and his wife Christine of Charlton; a brother, Ronald Latour of Spencer; two sisters, Carol Gilbert of Spencer and Linda Johnson-Moulin of Auburn; a grandson, Steven Latour, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Neil Latour, and a grandson, Matthew Latour. He was born in Worcester, MA the son of Richard and Norma (Wood) Latour.
Earl worked for 12 years as a delivery driver for J and R Auto Body Supply in Framingham, MA before retiring. Previously he worked as a gas fitter for various companies for many years.
Earl was a member of the 200 Sportsman Club. He enjoyed country music and going to antique car shows. Earl truly loved his time spent with his grandchildren, Steven and Matthew.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27th, at 10:00 am at the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge. Burial will follow in West Ridge Cemetery, Charlton. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 26th, from 6:00 to 8:00pm.

Richard H. Darling of Sturbridge/Andover

September 2, 1933 – April 23, 2013

 

Richard H. “Dick” Darling, 79, of Sturbridge died at home on April, 23, 2013 of natural causes.  Born on City Island, Bronx NY, in 1933, Dick grew up with a love of sailing and the water.  The son of William and Ruth (Leviness) Darling, he was the middle child, born between brother William “Billy” Darling and sister Ellen Darling Burke.  He built his first boat at age 11 with his father and brother, and worked around the water throughout his teens.  A graduate of the prestigious Bronx High School of Science, he was a varsity sailor for The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art before earning a degree in mechanical engineering at the City College of New York.  It was at City College that he met his wife Hannah Nienburg, whom he married in 1957. Following graduation from City College, Dick earned a Master’s at New York University and served in the Army Corps of Engineers. Dick spent the next thirty years doing applied design engineering work for a variety of firms, including Remington Typewriters, Johnson & Johnson, Sanders Association, and Instrumentation Laboratory. Several patents are registered under his name.  After retiring as an engineer in 1993, Dick taught engineering and mechanics classes part-time at several institutions, including the Franklin Institute in Boston.

 Dick loved the outdoors and the family went on many wilderness canoeing trips, most often in Maine, Ontario, and the Adirondacks.  A loving father, he built tree houses, repaired bicycles and took his kids on nature walks.  For much of his life he maintained different sailboats, from the sailing rig for his Grumman canoe to, most recently, a Catalina 22 named “Mischief” which sailed out of Salem.  He was Scoutmaster of Troop 76 in Andover MA where he emphasized outdoor activities, camping, and canoeing.  For many years Dick was an active member of the Methodist church.  Dick and Hannah were long-time members of Ballard Vale United Church in Andover, serving in numerous leadership positions. Dick was involved in fundraising for an elevator to connect all floors of the church, making it wheelchair-accessible. Most recently, he was involved in the Charlton City Methodist Church near his home in Sturbridge.  He was an active square and round dancer, serving as president of the Rocketeers Square Dance Club. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was a great supporter of their efforts and successes, core values that have been passed on to the next generation.

 He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Hannah (Nienburg) Darling, five children and their spouses, and eight grandchildren: Nancy Darling. her husband Andrew Burns and their two sons Ian and Sean of Oberlin, OH; Betty Darling, her husband Bruce Boyson and their two children William and Julianna of Sturbridge, MA; Carolyn Darling Walter, her husband Peter and their two daughters Ashley and Genevieve of Hampton, NJ; Thomas Darling, his wife Cathy Stoddard and their two children Owen and Joseph of Bristol, VT; and Wendy Darling of Atlanta, GA.

 His family and friends would like to extend their profound gratitude and admiration for Dick’s wife, Hannah, who cared for him tirelessly through his final years.

Angela Haviland Nichols, 89, of Charlton, MA,

 formerly of Stamford, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side. Angela was born in Stamford on March 7, 1923 to the late Dominick Morosa and Rose Gandiana Morosa. Angela was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, serving in various leadership capacities and worked as a controller for Toyota for 15 years before her retirement. 
Angela is survived by her two sons; Donald W. Haviland and his wife Sandra of Burlington, VT and Jeffery A. Haviland and his wife Linda of Swarthmore, PA, as well as six grandchildren; Suzanne, Shaun, Zakariah, Kaziah, Derek and Jennifer, and one great-grandchild; Mirae. 
Besides her parents, Angela is predeceased by her first husband Willard H. Haviland, as well as by her second husband Horace Nichols.

Auburn-Preston J. Sturdevant, Jr., D.D.S., died Friday in Bradenton, FL after a lengthy illness.

He leaves his wife of 61 years, Audrey (Kleiner) Sturdevant, and their children; Preston J. Sturdevant, III and his wife Marie of Auburn, Carole Vilandre and her husband Michael of Fiskdale, five loving grandchildren, Christine Sturdevant of Auburn, Cully and Cory Hagberg of Fiskdale, Robert Sturdevant and his wife Paige of Douglas, and Hollie Grant and her husband Matt of North Brookfield, and 1 great granddaughter Raegan. He also leaves a brother Stephen A. Sturdevant, of Clearwater, FL, and a sister Gwyneth Cook, of Whiting, NJ, and several nieces and nephews.

Preston is preceded in death by his daughters; Alice Lynn “Lindy” and Nancy Jean Sturdevant.

Preston was very active in the masons. He was a member and past master of Joel H Prouty Lodge in Auburn, a past monarch of Alethia Grotto in Worcester, and an active member of the Shrine in both Massachusetts and Florida. He was a co-founder and past president of the Civil War Round Table of Worcester, as well as several other Civil War organizations. Preston and his family were active campers, being members of the Worcester Chapter of North American Family Campers Association, as well as several other organizations.

He was born in Forty Fort PA, son of the late Preston J. and H. Damaris (Metsker) Sturdevant. A proud WWII Veteran; Preston served his country as a member of the US Navy. He then relocated to Auburn after graduating from the University of PA Dental School in 1953, and practiced dentistry in Worcester for 38 years, retiring in 1991.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 5-8 PM Thursday March 14, 2013 in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street Auburn. A Masonic Service will be held. Margaret (Watson) March, 91 of Worcester, formerly of Sturbridge, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2012 in the Christopher House. 
Margaret’s husband of sixty-three years, Robert F. March passed away in 2003. She is survived by her twin sons, Richard March and his wife Mary Lou of Wrentham and Robert March and his wife Cecile of Auburn; a daughter, Peggy Ann Mowitz and her husband Eric of Punta Gorda, FL; a brother, Robert Watson of Concord, MA; five beloved grandchildren, William and Brian March, Kristen Ruiz, Kathryn March and Erica Segeberecht; nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by three brothers, Thomas, William and David Watson and a sister, Kathryn Watson. 
Margaret was born in Lynn, MA, a daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Hossack) Watson. She grew up and attended high school in Lynn. She married in 1943. She moved to Dallas, Texas in 1951 with her husband and three children. In 1966, she and her husband returned to Massachusetts and lived in Sturbridge until recently moving to Worcester in 2001. Margaret was a homemaker, tending to her family and raising her three children. She was a member of Charlton City United Methodist Church and the Red Hat Society. Her greatest enjoyment in life was her family and she loved being with them. Margaret had a kind and loveable personality; she was a sweet soul. 
A memorial service for Margaret will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at 10:00AM, at the Charlton City United Methodist Church, 74 Stafford Street, Charlton, MA 01507. Doris M. (Wheeler) Gerrard, 94, of Charlton and Gardner died at home with her family on Saturday, October 1, 2011.

 

Doris was born on October 9, 1916 in Gardner the daughter of Carl and Ida (Carlson) Wheeler and lived in Gardner most of her life before moving to Charlton to live with her son. She was predeceased by her husband Walter in 2000 and her two brothers, Charles Wheeler of Gardner and Oren Wheeler of Fitchburg. Doris is best remembered for the love, compassion and care that she gave to others.

 

She is survived by her son, Kris Gerrard and his wife Marilyn of Charlton; a granddaughter, Cindy Lu and her husband Steven of Worcester and three grandchildren, David, Brian and Tiffany of Charlton. Doris was a long time member of the Chestnut Street United Methodist Church in Gardner and recently the Charlton City United Methodist Church. The family wishes to thank the Bossee family of Gardner for their long term friendship and care given to Mom and Dad while in Gardner. We express our gratitude and thanks to the Charlton Overlook Hospice/VNA for their outstanding care and compassion provided at the end Mom's life. Roger Reed Grimwade

February 26, 1929 - September 30, 2011

 

Roger Reed Grimwade, 82, of Masonic Home Rd. died Friday, September 30, 2011 at Harrington Memorial Hospital after being stricken ill at home.

 

He leaves his wife of 25 years, Lois (Burnham) Grimwade; his three children, John Grimwade of Kansas City, MO, Jane Tirrell of Pasadena, CA, and Julia Leonard of Merritt Island, FL; and his two sisters, Barbara Meservey of Charlton, and Anne Bodine of Orrs Island, ME. He also leaves three stepchildren, Patricia Kritzman of Stafford Springs, CT, Thomas Hastings of Wayland, MA, and Steven Hastings of Bolton MA, and 14 grandchildren. His first wife Barbara (McMaster) Grimwade died in Nov. 1980.

 

He was born in Worcester, the son of Roger M. and Doris (Reed) Grimwade and lived in Charlton all his life.

 

Reed graduated from Charlton High School in 1946, and from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1950, where he earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering. He served on the USS Glennon during the Korean War.

 

Reed was CEO and Treasurer of the Charlton Woolen Company from 1962 until 1981. He then started another company, Charlton Blanket Company. He was a past President of the Northern Textile Association and was Chairman of the NTA Wool Council for many years. After retiring, he volunteered with the International Executive Service Corp to help strengthen private textile companies in developing nations. Reed was also a Trustee of Southbridge Savings Bank since 1957, and a member of the bank's Board of Investment since 1966. In 1985, he was named Chairman of the Board of Trustees of SSB, and at the time of his death held the title of Honorary Director. He also served as an advisory director of Worcester County National Bank.

 

Reed was also very active in serving his local community. He was a former President of Harrington Memorial Hospital, leading a drive for a major expansion of the hospital in the early 1970's. He served for many years on the Finance Committee in Charlton, and was Chairman of the Planning Committee that established the Dudley-Charlton School District and led to the building of Shepherd Hill Regional High School. Reed was also a former Trustee of Nichols College. He was a former Director of the YMCA, and a past Chairman of the Budget Committee of the United Way. He also was a charter member and the first President of the Charlton Ambulance Corp. He was an overseer of Old Sturbridge Village. Reed was also an avid golfer, and a member and former President of Cohasse County Club.

 

His funeral will be held at 11:00 AM October 29, in the Charlton City United Methodist Church, 74 Stafford St. Charlton.

 

Calling hours are 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, Oct. 28, in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grimwade Family Scholarship Fund, WPI, 100 Institute Road, Worcester, MA 01609.

Harold E. Russell, 68, of 9 J.Hammond Road died Wednesday, April 20 in his home after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Nancy A. (Stockman) Russell, two sons Richard H. Russell and his wife Brenda, and Kenneth H. Russell and his wife Robin all of Charlton, two brothers James W. Russell & Douglas K. Russell both of Charlton, three grandchildren; Brett, Daniel & Jordan Russell, two step-grandchildren Suzanne & Scott Mettel, several nieces and nephews and his Doberman “Holly”.

Harold was born in Southbridge, son of Warren D. and Thelma (Kingston) Russell. He graduated from Charlton High School and UMass Amherst Stockbridge School of Agriculture. He worked at Norton Co. for 32 years retiring in 1997. He later worked at St. Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer for several years before retiring in July of 2010. He was a member of the Charlton City United Methodist Church. He was a member and past Master of the Oxford Lodge A.F. & A.M., a member and past Patron of the Clara Barton Chapter of the Eastern Star in Oxford and a former committee chairman of Boy Scout Troop 165 in Charlton. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, working in his yard and garage, playing cribbage and taking winter vacations in Aruba. Harold and his sons just finished restoring his 1951 Ford F1 pickup.

Harold’s funeral will be held Saturday, April 23 at 10:00 AM in the Charlton City United Methodist Church; 74 Stafford St., Charlton. Burial will follow in Westridge Cemetery, Charlton. Helen M. Pike (Chabot) Cheney, died March 13, 2011

 

Helen M. (Chabot) Pike Cheney, 92, of Charlton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 13, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Chester A. Cheney in 1995, and by her first husband, Earl F. Pike in 1966.

Helen is survived by her five children, Everett E. Pike and his wife Mary of California; Gordon C. Pike and his wife Melinda of Charlton; Carol A. Fisher of Charlton, Mary Lou Carr and her husband Robert of York Harbor, ME, and Brenda J. Thomas and her husband Frank of East Brookfield; nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her grandson, Wayne Shedd and by her three brothers and her sister.

Helen was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Henry R. and Elizabeth L. (Campbell) Chabot. She has lived in Charlton for many years.

A dedicated homemaker, Helen most enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved cooking, gardening and flowers. Helen was a longtime volunteer with the Charlton Helping Hand Society, and a longtime member of the Charlton City United Methodist Church. She was also a former member of the VFW in New Hampshire and the American Legion.

Helen's family wishes to thank all the staff members that have so lovingly cared for Helen during her many years living at the Masonic Home. They all made these last years so special.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service celebrating Helen's life at 1 PM on Saturday, March 19th in the James C. Niccoll Chapel of the Overlook Masonic Healthcare Center, 88 Masonic Home Rd., Charlton. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Herbert G. Anderson

Herbert G. Anderson: It has pleased God to call home his servant Herbert George Anderson, who died on March 13, 2010 at his home in Charlton.

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Jean C. (Walker) Anderson; children, Mark G. Anderson of Budenheim, Germany, Andrew P. Anderson and his wife Ruth of Charlton, Stephen A. Anderson and his wife Debra of Littleton and Lynn M. Anderson of Woodstock, Ct.; sisters, Marion Schonbeck and Gurlie Anderson of Worcester; eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was born on May 5, 1937 on a farm in Charlton, the son of Axel and Anne (Backman) Anderson. He came to Worcester at an early age and later lived in Oxford and Charlton.

Mr. Anderson worked for 34 years at Mass Electric as a meter reader and Field Representative, retiring in 1998.

His greatest joy was being in service for God. He gave his heart to ministry at the age of fourteen and never faltered in his walk with his Savior, Jesus Christ. He served as Youth Leader, Sunday School Superintendent, Bible Teacher, Lay Leader, Lay Speaker and Deacon.

He was the founder of Resurrection Ministries a Bible based home church in Charlton.

Many were the seeds he sowed for the Lord's garden. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.

His funeral will be held at 10:30AM, Thursday, March 18th, in the Charlton City United Methodist Church, 74 Stafford St., Charlton. Burial will follow at West Ridge Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Levi F. "Fran" Oster, 76, of Holland, Mass., passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 26, 2010.

He leaves his wife of 59 years, June I. (Estes) Oster; three sons, William Oster of Dayville, Steven Oster, and his wife, Barbara "Buffy," of Holland, Mass., and Carlton Lee Oster of Holland, Mass.; four daughters, Susan Lanning, and her husband, Ben, of Union, Rose Teena Plourde, and her husband, Tom, of Tolland, Carolyn Larabee of North Adams, Mass., Mary Pollier, and her husband, Robert, of Hardwick, Mass., and Gloria Galica, and her husband, John, of Stafford Springs; a cousin, Phyllis McDonald of New Jersey; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. A son, Roy Oster, died in 1975, and a grandson, Benjamin Lanning Jr., died in 2008.

He was born in North Adams, Mass., the son of the late Nicolas and Eva (Kimpton) Oster. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War era. He moved to Holland in 1957, where he built his own home and raised his children and where he still resided at the time of his passing. Fran was a truck driver for E.A. Dickie & Son in Worcester for many years before he retired several years ago. He previously drove for North American Van Lines and also Nu-Car Carriers. After retirement, he worked part-time as a school bus driver for the town of Sturbridge. He enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, and his animals.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 1, at 2:30 p.m. in the Holland Cemetery, Holland.

He leaves his wife Bonnie (Wisznieski) Cytulik. He also leaves 3 sons Michael Cytulik of Somerville, MA, Dana Foss and Phillip Bush of Southbridge and a daughter Amanda Bush of Southbridge. 
He was born in California, and has lived here for many years. He was a maintenance worker for Outdoor World in Sturbridge for several years and retired due to illness. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and also liked trains.

STURBRIDGE — Mrs. Marion A. (Lucier) Dighton, 91, a resident of Radius Healthcare Center of Southbridge, formerly of Heritage Green Drive, died Sunday, Sept. 26 at Harrington Memorial Hospital. Her husband was the late William R. Dighton Sr., who died in 1987. She is survived by her son,William “Bill” R. Dighton Jr., and his wife, Cynthia, of Charlton; four grandchildren, Burleigh Dighton of Rome, Ga., Cheryl Dighton of Dunbar, W.Va., Bobby Dighton of Sturbridge and Darrin Dighton of Langley, British Columbia; seven great-grandchildren and two sisters, Lorraine Waterhouse of Dudley and Rosanna Desrosier of Worcester. She was predeceased by her brother, Adelard Lucier of Spring Hill, Fla. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Joseph and Ezilda (Vanasse) Lucier, and lived many years in Grafton before moving to Sturbridge. Mrs. Dighton loved her family and had enjoyed helping care for her grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Dighton were held Friday, Oct. 1 from the Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy St., Southbridge, followed by a Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, H. Putnam Road Extension, Charlton. White of Thomaston, CT and Randy D. White of Brookfield; a daughter, Malarie J. White of Southbridge; a sister, Joyce A. Mayberry of Sturbridge; 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Henry White and Franklin White and a sister, Jenny B. Suitter. He was born in Smyrna, ME, the son of Fred J. and Violet B. (Scott) White. 
Leo was a school bus driver for Southbridge Livery Service for 22 years and later was the manager of the Charlton Motel in Charlton, before retiring several years ago. He was a member of the Charlton City United Methodist Church. He enjoyed camping and traveling. He most of all enjoyed spending time with his family.

Mildred E. (Sprague) Gray, died October 30, 2010

 

DUDLEY – Mildred E. (Sprague) Gray, 98, of Green Street, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Avery Archibald Gray, who died in 1965. She is survived by her daughter, Rhoda Taylor of Dudley, with whom she lived; nineteen grandchildren, many, many great grandchildren, and many more great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by five sons, Robert Gray, Martin Peterson, Kent Gray, Roy Gray and Duane Gray. She was born in North Brookfield, the daughter of the late Leslie W. and Jennie T. (Young) Sprague, and was a longtime resident of Charlton prior to moving to Dudley over 35 years ago. 

Mrs. Gray worked for many years at Reed and Prince in Worcester before retiring from McClellan’s in Southbridge in 1974. She was a longtime member of the Charlton Methodist Church. In May of this year, Mrs. Gray received her sixty-five year membership seal from the Dudley Grange, where she was currently serving as the Chaplin. She enjoyed candlepin bowling and was a prolific paint-by-number artist. 

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at Westridge Cemetery in Charlton. There are no calling hours. after being stricken ill. His was predeceased by his wife  June B. (Byron) Hutchinson (2001).  He leaves a son Doug "Hutchie" Hutchinson and his wife Brenda (Coty) of Charlton; two daughters Deborah Mogavero and her husband Dave of Westerly, RI; Donna of Southbridge, widow of Richard G Reynolds (1994); six grandchildren, Scott and Chris Mogavero, Grace Mogavero-Dinwoodie, Amanda, Carly and Nicholas Reynolds, five great grandchildren, as well as  many nieces, nephews, his  sister in law Faith (Byron) Houle and her husband Wilfred R. Houle of Largo, FL.   He was predeceased by his two brothers Lawrence and Kenneth Hutchinson.  He was born in Palmer, the son of William and Bernice (Colburn) Hutchinson, a graduate  from Mary E. Wells and Cole Trade School as a tool and dye maker.  He was a naval veteran of WW II.  He was a prominent member and trustee of the Charlton City United Methodist Church, he helped on the building committee and served at the church suppers.  He worked many years at the American Optical Co and Dexter Russell.  He was a member of the Quinebaug Lodge of Masons AF & AM, the Doric Royal Arch Chapter, and an member of the South Charlton Reservoir Association.   He enjoyed his trade, boating, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, serving and working with others, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
His funeral will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, May 13th, in the Charlton City  United Methodist Church, 72 Stafford Rd, Charlton. Charlton: Matthew R. Latour, 22, of Ten School House Rd., died Thursday, June 11th, in the Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge, after suddenly being stricken ill while playing basketball.
He leaves his parents, Thomas C. and Christine M. (Palkovich) Latour of Charlton; his brother, Steven T. Latour of Charlton; his paternal grandparents, Earl R. and Cynthia M. (Heck) Latour of Sturbridge and his maternal grandparents, Robert J. and Melitta L. (James) Palkovich. He was born in Southbridge. He was a 2005 graduate of Shepard Hill Regional High School.
Matthew worked at J & R Autobody Supply in Framingham and previously worked for Napoli Pizza in Sturbridge. He enjoyed all kinds of sports especially basketball and go-cart racing. He also enjoyed fishing.

Anne Marie Margaret (Normandin) Aho, 70

 

Sturbridge - Anne Marie Margaret (Normandin) Aho, 70, of 63 Beach Avenue, passed peacefully and painlessly into Heaven, where she was greeted, undoubtedly, by Saint Anthony, on Sunday, November 30.  Her family was by her side at Radius Healthcare Center at Southbridge after her long and courageous battle with cancer.

 

She leaves her loving husband of nearly 50 years, David K. Aho, her three devoted daughters, Wendi A. King and her husband, Paul, of Oahu, Hawaii, Dianne C. Kelly and her husband, Russell, of Sturbridge, and Judith A. Aho and her fiancé, David K. Wahlstrom of Sturbridge.  She also leaves her eight grandchildren, Carynne, Erika, Nathan, Christopher, Victoria, Hailey, Stephanie, and Heather and her five great-grandchildren, Lily, Tyler, Scarlett, Cotter, and Adina.

 

Anne Marie is also survived by her brothers, Allard Normandin, Paul Normandin, Peter Normandin, all of Southbridge, James Normandin of Sturbridge, David Normandin of Mesa, AZ, Thomas Normandin of St. Cloud, FL, and one sister, Antoinette Benoit of Southbridge.  She leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends as well.

 

She was born in Southbridge and lived there and in Sturbridge all of her life.  She was predeceased by her mother, Cecile (Duhamel) Normandin, her father, Zepherine Normandin, brothers, George Normandin, Harvey Normandin, Richard Normandin, Robert Normandin, Rene Normandin and one sister, Alice Normandin.

 

Anne Marie worked for many years at the AO and Hartwell and Centre Pharmacies.  She also worked at the Center of Hope for many years from where she retired several years ago.  However, she remained a volunteer for many years with the Center of Hope Food Sharing Program.

 

Anne Marie loved and cherished her family more than anything and was very proud of them all.  She was very passionate about, fishing, yard sales, cooking and her Christian faith.  She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1956.  As a child and young adult, she was an exceptional athlete and won many school and town awards, especially in basketball and swimming.

 

At Anne Marie’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.  Burial will be private after cremation.

Elizabeth Ann (Gilfoy) Bouchard, 71, of Ridge Point Court, Moreno Valley, CA, and formerly of Spencer, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, in her home.

 

She was predeceased by her husband, Norman E. Bouchard, who died in 1983.

 

Elizabeth is survived by three children, Norma J. Robertson of Moreno Valley, CA, Joseph E. Bouchard and Charles H. Bouchard, both of Oxford; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.

Richard T. Smith, 93 of 38 Horrigan Ave, died Friday January 26, 2007 at Athol Memorial Hospital.

 

 He was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, February 24, 1913, son of Ansel J. and Clara (Aiken) Smith. He grew up in Royalston, living there many years, graduating from Athol High School in 1931n and since the 1940’s has lived in Athol.
